DESKO BPV 502 & PENTA Scanner BPV - Question and Answers

BASIC INFORMATION

QUESTION AND ANSWERS

1. DESKO PENTA Scanner® BPV doesn’t read home printed boarding passes or lights don’t go on when barcode is placed on the scanning window 

Print a copy of the “PENTA Scanner Gen4.1 - Barcode trigger and reading test_Letter.pdf” on your local printer. If you do not have this pdf file, please contact DESKO Support.

Follow the instructions on the letter in order to test the scanner functions. If the DESKO PENTA Scanner® passes the barcode trigger and reading test, the problem is most likely with the printing quality of the home printed boarding pass. If the DESKO PENTA Scanner® fails this test, please contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for further analysis and repair.


2. DESKO PENTA Scanner® doesn’t boot up or the triangle lights are flashing yellow 

Replace the battery pack or A/C adapter with a working battery pack or A/C adapter (from another PENTA device) and try again.

If the DESKO PENTA Scanner® still doesn’t boot up or the yellow triangle lights are constantly on, please contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for repair.  


3. A/C adapter doesn’t provide power for the DESKO PENTA Scanner® or the triangle lights are flashing yellow

Take a look at the pictures in the Appendix A – PENTA_Power-Adapter.pdf. If you don’t have this pdf file, please contact DESKO Support.

Take a look at the pins inside the connector which will be plugged into the DESKO PENTA Scanner®. The DC Pins of the adapter must be unbowed and not pushed. If the pins are pushed in (see picture examples), the adapter has been damaged. Please compare your adapter with all example pictures shown in the PDF file. If necessary, contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for replacement.   


4. DESKO PENTA Scanner battery charger won’t charge batteries 

Connect the battery pack to the battery charger. For battery charging the battery pack has to be removed from the device.  

It may take up to 12 hours to fully charge a battery pack. The red light will remain on until the battery is fully charged. Red light will go out when the battery is fully charged.

Take a look at the pins inside the connector which will be plugged into the battery pack. The pins of the adapter must be unbowed and not pushed. If the pins are pushed in, the charger has been damaged.

If the red light is flashing and there is no visible damage to the connector, the charger might be broken. Please contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for replacement.   


5. How can the airport code be changed 

To change the airport code of the PENTA Scanner ® BPV you need a PC (Windows 0S required), a USB cable and the BpvConfig.exe. If you do not have this file, please contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for help.  

Connect the PENTA Scanner ® BPV with a USB cable to a PC (Windows 0S required), switch on the PENTA Scanner ® BPV and wait until it is booted. The PENTA Scanner ® BPV is ready if it beeps. Double-click BpvConfig.exe to start the PENTA Scanner ® BPV Configuration Tool. If it is the first time it could take a few seconds to start, because .NET Framework is started before.  

Select the communication port from the list of COM-Ports where the PENTA Scanner ® BPV is connected to. Click Open button. Now the connection is done and the device is ready to be configured. The screen is filled with the current device configuration.  

To edit the departure airport enter the corresponding 3-letter Airport Code. There is an automatic capital letter conversion for small letters. If less than three letters are entered, the device will not have a departure airport. To reset the configuration values to its factory settings, click on the Reset button. You will be asked to be sure and if yes all settings will be set to the default values and the clock will be set to local system clock.  

If edit of configuration is done, click the Apply button. The configuration will be transmitted to the device and the PENTA Scanner® BPV is immediately ready to use with updated configuration. It is possible to edit and save the configuration as often as needed without reopening the device. After that the PENTA Scanner ® BPV is ready for use and the PENTA Scanner ® BPV Configuration Tool can be closed using the Exit button.    


6. How can the time code be changed

To change the time code of the PENTA Scanner ® BPV you need a PC (Windows 0S required), a USB cable and the BpvConfig.exe. If you do not have this file, please contact DESKO Support @ + 1-866-965 0480 or ddavis@dderepair.com for help.  

Connect the PENTA Scanner ® BPV with either a serial or USB cable with PC (Windows 0S required), switch on the PENTA Scanner ® BPV and wait until it is booted. The PENTA Scanner ® BPV is ready if it beeps. Double-click BpvConfig.exe to start the PENTA Scanner ® BPV Configuration Tool. If it is the first time it could take a few seconds to start, because .NET Framework is started before.  

Select the communication port from the list of COM-Ports where the PENTA Scanner ® BPV is connected to. Click Open button. Now the connection is done and the device is ready to be configured. The screen is filled with the current device configuration.  

By default the current local system date and time will be used to update the clock of the device. This can be changed if check box “Use System Date / Time” is unchecked. The date and time has to be configured manually using the date / time picker.  

To reset the configuration values to its factory settings, click on the Reset button. You will be asked to be sure and if yes all settings will be set to the default values and the clock will be set to local system clock.  

If edit of configuration is done, click the Apply button. The configuration will be transmitted to the device and the PENTA Scanner® BPV is immediately ready to use with updated configuration. It is possible to edit and save the configuration as often as needed without reopening the device. After that the PENTA Scanner ® BPV is ready for use and the PENTA Scanner ® BPV Configuration Tool can be closed using the Exit button.
