DESKO Boarding Gate Reader Allows Flexible and Mobile Check-In
Bayreuth, March 20th 2006 Airlines and airports must work more flexible
but also more ergonomic. Two features, which normally do not go
together easily. This is why the DESKO Gate Reader Solution Kit (GRSK)
has been developed. For the first time DESKO offers a boarding gate
reader, which allows check-in even by bar code. This makes the GRSK
worldwide a unique system that makes all bar code boarding processes
possible.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) tries to replace the existing and because of having a magnetic stripe printed on its back expensive tickets. In the future all necessary information shall be available within a bar code field. “With the help of bar code technology airlines and airports have varied possibilities to handle their boarding processes more cost-effective and considerable faster. One is not only able to print a bar code with any printer on nearly any type of paper but can also display a bar code on a screen i.e. of a PDA”, explains Ewald Plößner Sales Manager DESKO. Therefore the passenger is able to print its ticket and boarding passes at home or can even present the bar code on its mobile phone screen. As a result the check-in processes at the airport become unnecessary. The passenger is doing the check-in comfortable at home and can then go straight to the boarding gate where the information stored on his bar code is verified before entering the airplane.
This so called mobile boarding process is not least possible because of DESKO’s check-in system. In cooperation with dba the mobile boarding process was started March 9th just in time for CeBIT and ITB exhibiton on the Munich – Hannover airway. Passengers can book their flights online at dba website and after that get their boarding pass sent to their MMS capable mobile phone. All the passenger has to do now is present the 2D bar code displayed on its mobile phone so that the DESKO boarding gate reader can confirm the data before he enters the aircraft. Consequently the check-in process at the airport and a long waiting time that comes with it is a thing of the past. This procedure is time-saving for the passenger and makes air travel clearly more flexible. Because of the much simpler passenger handling airlines and airports can do the necessary procedures much more ergonomic and therefore stay competitive in the future.
