DESKO Full Page Passport Scanner Combines Security and Efficiency

Bayreuth, February 15th 2006 With its full page passport scanner DESKO presents an innovative technology for passenger and border control systems. Despite a complex document and security check, the system is flexible and ergonomic enough to be used in large numbers as a standardized tool for security and border cross applications.

Airlines and airports are more and more confronted with an increasing number of passengers and an international community that demands stricter security requirements. By adding biometric data, normal passports are becoming e-Passports. Also, in addition to an already integrated chip, bar codes on the data page of the passport are under discussion. Increasing amounts of data have to be read and transmitted reliably and fast. Exactly for these issues the new DESKO full page passport scanner has been developed. Equipped with a revolutionary scanner system – requiring very little space and working with high speed – the DESKO full page passport scanner system is flexible and handy. „The used technology opens up a lot new possibilities for travel and border controls“, explains Bruno Geyer, Managing Director. „So far these kind of complex and exact scanners were often only used by laboratories; but our system is such ergonomic and user friendly that it is possible to install large amounts of the device at different locations, e.g. at airport check-in desks or at border control stations. The system can either be used as a self-service or as an operated device“.

The open passport has to be placed on the display and the complete data page of the passport will be scanned. Therefore, the location and type of coded data is not important, all necessary information can be scanned. Therefore common OCR data as well as added barcode data can be read. Also, the full page scanner has an integrated wireless RFID technology, which ensures that all biometric data of the new e-Passports are available. Additional functions, such as infrared sampling and automatically checking the validity of passports make sure that the DESKO FP 500 system supports passenger and border control applications perfectly.

With the latest development DESKO focuses on reliable and maintenance-free technology. Furthermore, the system can be adjusted individually to customer needs.
